Why you should have a personal philosophy of life
In this new age of modernization, we have grown into a culture of believing that everyone’s opinion matters. Freedom of speech has made everyone feel entitled to speak anything without filtering or fact-checking what they say. This behavior is quite common, especially in this age of social media and the internet. Controversy sells more than authenticity. Mediocrity is more popular than sanity. Fake news sells more than real news. It is all about profit-making over ethics making it hard to distinguish between what’s morally right and what’s not. Everyone thinks they make sense, and they are always right thus leaving no room for the benefit of the doubt to what is said, posted, or written.Google search engine has been designed in a way that it will always give you what you want. It doesn't matter if it's true or not. People will write and post things that other people want to hear and read and feel good about themselves instead of what people need. The market has been reduced to become more about what makes people feel good than keeping people in check. It's all about justifying errors, sin, and what's not ethical as long as it cashing in some checks. A false doctrine can be easily justified as a true one by other false doctrinal teachers to push a wrong agenda for personal benefit.
A fool’s foolish opinion among wise men will be considered foolishness. But a fool’s foolish opinion among other fellow fools might be considered wise, just like a patient cannot help another patient. A patient needs a doctor and not another patient. A patient among other patients might think that it’s normal to be unwell the same way a fool among fools might think his/her foolishness is wise. That’s why being around people of the same level is always an error.
Since we say that everyone’s opinion matters we need to understand that not every opinion makes sense or is a fact. Some opinions are foolishness that when justified and termed as sensible ultimately cause avoidable damages in the long run.
Let’s talk about mental illness. Mental illness is a state of a wide range of conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior. It’s a disorder that interferes with normal body functioning. It can be, anxiety, or depression just to mention.
We have evolved into a world of justification. People justify everything even that which is not justifiable as a tool of escapism. People want to live in a fantasy world without acknowledging the presence of the real world. Acceptance has become a foreign thing to people. Nobody wants to accept the fact that they are going through something instead, a disorder is celebrated as an achievement listed of it being treated. People care more about what other people think of them than who they really are. Their image is more prioritized than their authentic self, for this reason mentally ill people with big names tend to normalize a mental illness as an achievement instead of as an illness to protect their image of not being vulnerable or susceptible. People want to look happy but deep down they are suffering. People are misled by being taught to be masters of escapism through insensible opinions from people about things from wrongly influenced perspectives.
Since everyone thinks their opinion matters, most people think they are always right. If you disapprove of them most tend to look for like-minded fellows to justify themselves. They say that life is all about perspective, but remember not all perspectives are true about something. Some perspectives are influenced by the state in which one is, meaning that they are temporary and can’t stand the test of time. When status changes perspectives might also change.
The question, what's the solution? Answer, just because it sounds true doesn't always mean it's the truth. Never believe everything you see, hear or read. Let's not be too naive to do everything that we're directed to without having a personal audit of it from all angles. There are intelligent fools too. Wisdom is not about age. Even fools get old and as they say, the beauty of life is about creating your own philosophy. You can listen, read, and see but in the end, the question to ask yourself is what do I think?
